The Brand of Hate

Some of the Larkins are a bad bunch of cattle rustlers and just down right mean. They move in on Joe Larkins and his law abiding family. Rod Camp quickly is at odds with the outlaws who seem to be capable of any foul deed. So it's up to Rod and Sheriff Bailey to stomp out the lawless element that has invaded their community. This classic western film was released in 1934. Lots of adventure here. There is some great action in this classic western. An interesting note is that George Hayes plays a really bad villain in this western. He was cast as a villain several times and his wife Olive did not like George playing villainous parts. George and Olive did well in vaudeville and they retired in 1928 when George was 43. But the crash of 29 robbed him of all his savings and he had to go back to work. Olive persuaded her husband to try Hollywood. If she hadn't the world would have never seen the greatest of western cowboy sidekicks. Another interesting side note is that Bob Steele was born Robert Adrian Bradbury Jr. born in Portland, Oregon, into a vaudeville family. His parents were Robert North Bradbury and the former Nieta Quinn. He had a twin brother, Bill, also an actor. After years of touring, the family settled in Hollywood in the late 1910s, where his father soon found work in the movies, first as an actor, later as a director. By 1920, Robert Bradbury hired Bob and his twin, Bill, as juvenile leads for a series of adventure movies titled The Adventures of Bill and Bob. Steele attended Glendale High School, but left before graduation.
