When The West Was Young AKA Heritage of the Desert Randolph Scott, Sally Blane
Adam Naab is an honest, hard working rancher with a crew of good Cowboys. Judson Holderness is a thieving, conniving, murdering scoundrel with a bunch of cutthroats on his payroll. Naab send for a surveyor to settle his boundary lines, Jack Hare arrives and is intercepted by Holderness and his men, this sets a lot of wheels in motion for a showdown. Great story from Zane Grey. This is Randolph Scott's first starring roll and this is a great film. Sally Blane is also magnificent as are the rest of the cast with an outstanding performance by Big Boy Williams. Cold blooded killers, an outlaw gang and sleazy crooked business men are the among the caitiffs Bill has to battle in this wild western adventure. We have remastered this movie into higher definition and greatly cleaned up the audio. Interesting note is Bill's real life Son plays the part of Bart Wilson. Bill Cody started out in silent western movies and transitioned into talking pictures very well. He appeared in at least fifty movies and even had a small part in John Ford's Stagecoach starring John Wayne. Tex and Hank are cowhands who have recently started a horse trading business. Camped just a bit out of town the two are getting cleaned up before they go to town. a man rides up on a played out horse and wants to swap. Tex swaps with the stranger who Tex and Hank later learn is The Tombstone Kid, and thats where the trouble and adventure starts for Tex and Hank. Some great music in this classic film. A wonderfully preserved copy of this 1950 western film in our archives. The Sundowners complete Western Movie Full Length in Color. This movie stars Robert Preston, Robert Sterling, John Barrymore Jr. Jack Elam and Chill Wills. Filmed in Texas in Palo Duro Canyon this movie has some amazing scenery shown in wonderful Technicolor.
Texas Buddies
Ted Garner is back from WWI. But everything he seems to have fought for has been taken from him. His girl has even deserted him. With the help of his friend Si Haller he sets out to even the score and get back the things that truly belong to him. Along the way while battling the villains that stole from him he and Si rescue others that have been tageted by the knaves. An interesting note in this is Gabby seems to be driving the Nugget Nell car that he also drives in John Wayne's Rainbow Valley. Bob is great in this one and of course the magnificent Charles King displays greatness as well. Lots of adventure here. There is some great action in this classic western. An interesting side note is that Bob Steele was born Robert Adrian Bradbury Jr. born in Portland, Oregon, into a vaudeville family. His parents were Robert North Bradbury and the former Nieta Quinn. He had a twin brother, Bill, also an actor. After years of touring, the family settled in Hollywood in the late 1910s, where his father soon found work in the movies, first as an actor, later as a director. By 1920, Robert Bradbury hired Bob and his twin, Bill, as juvenile leads for a series of adventure movies titled The Adventures of Bill and Bob. Steele attended Glendale High School, but left before graduation. From 1932.
