The Sheriff's Streak of Yellow

The miners around the Town of Gold Bar are being held up and robbed. Sheriff Hale (William S. Hart) is determined to take care of this problem. He guards a large wagon load of Gold and then sets out after a man said to be one of the outlaws. The Sheriff's Streak of Yellow Western film two reel short movie. This is perhaps the most complete copy of this film left in existence. Parts of this movie have been thought to be lost forever for years. And it stars the first western movie star and one of the biggest western movie stars ever, William Surrey Hart. This rare film comes from Johnny Crawford's personal collection of rare films. We transferred this to digital from an 8mm film reel. Most of you probably remember Johnny best as Mark McCain on The Rifleman television show. Johnny told me years ago when it comes to western movie heroes William S. Hart was his guy. Hart's autobiography is incredible. He was born in New York in 1864 but grew up in the American west spending most of his childhood in places like Kansas and South Dakota. He learned to speak the Sioux language by playing with young Sioux children his age. His attention for authentic clothing and settings and gear of the real American west made his films extremely popular. The title credits at the beginning say this film is from 1914 but online sources say it was released in 1915. There is one other copy of this film out there and it was restored years ago by The Danish Film Institute. But many frames and sections of that copy are clearly missing or in the wrong place. Many times when color tinted films were stored the same color tints would be stored together so the film would have to be pieced back together to be played again. Our copy comes completely from Johnny's film. There are no segments used from The Danish Film Institutes copy. Our copy is much more complete than the other copy out there. This is episode 94 of The Forsaken Westerns, an original TV series produced by Westerns On The Web Productions in cooperation with The Westerns Channel. The Forsaken Westerns is a series dedicated to finding and broadcasting westerns that appear to have been lost forever. Hart was a great horseman and says he cannot remember learning to ride, just saying he had always ridden horses. The credits this silent movie that are known are. William S Hart - Sheriff Hale Fritz - Sheriff Hale's Horse Also probably Jack Nelson - as Bill Todd Gertrude Claire - as Mom Todd Online courses state that Bob Russell - is Jennings (But we have seen no title cards with the name Jennings on any copy of this film) But assume it is the man who is the leader of the other towns people. The Forsaken Westerns series contains episodes of TV shows that were never broadcast or have not been broadcast in as many as 65 years. This is the first theatrical movie to be added to The Forsaken Westerns Series. Almost lost forever, these rare western film treasures are being Digitized by https://www.thewesternschannel.com from the Bob and Johnie Terry personal archive's of thousands of western films in their collection.
